Rubber Stamping Tips and Tricks

Can't find an Off-the-Rack card that suits your fancy? Want some wrapping paper that really stands out? How about a personalized sweatshirt? With a rubber stamp, some fabric ink, and a little imagination, you can do all of these things and so much more!

Basic Rubber Stamping
You will need: a rubber stamp, rubber stamp ink, craft paper, and a flat, solid surface
  • Completely coat the back of the rubber stamp with ink.
  • Position the stamp over your paper
  • Press the stamp firmly onto the paper
  • Remove the stamp and allow the ink to dry
  • Use makers, water colors, colored pencils, or glitter pens to add detail
Experiment with different kinds of paper. Parchment, drafting velum, tissue paper, and Bristol board all work great!
Rubber Stamping on Fabric
You will need: a rubber stamp, Fabrico Craft Ink, fabric (a fabric with a small grain, such as cotton, will work the best, an iron, a piece of scrap paper, and a flat, solid surface
  • Completely cover the back of the rubber stamp with ink.
  • Position the stamp over the fabric (make sure the fabric is flat).
  • Press the stamp firmly onto the fabric.
  • Remove the stamp.
  • Use Fabrico Craft Ink Markers to add detail.
  • If you make a mistake, you can use water to remove the ink.
  • When you are finished, make the ink colorfast by ironing it with an iron set to No Steam (protect your iron by placing a piece of scrap paper over the image).
  • We recommend washing such images by hand with a mild detergent and cold water.
Embossing an Image on Velvet
You will need: a rubber stamp, a piece of velvet, and an iron
  • Position the rubber stamp over the velvet. Make sure the rubber image faces the fuzzy front side of the velvet.
  • Pull the velvet taut and secure it to the back of the stamp with tape.
  • With an iron set to Steam, iron the back of the velvet.
  • Remove the velvet and highlight the image using beads or glitter glue.
  • We recommend that you do not wash embossed velvet.
Embossing Rubber Stamps on Paper
You will need: a rubber stamp, rubber stamp ink (a thick, non-water soluble ink works best), craft paper, embossing powder (available from fine crafts stores), a heat source such as a hot plate or a heat gun, and a flat solid surface
  • Completely coat the back of the rubber stamp with ink.
  • Position the stamp over your paper.
  • Press the stamp firmly onto the paper.
  • Remove the stamp.
  • Before the ink has a chance to dry, liberally sprinkle the image with embossing powder, making sure the image is completely covered.
  • Remove the excess powder.
  • Place the image over you heat source.
  • Remove the image from the heat source when the powder begins to liquefy.
  • Allow the image to cool.
  • Use makers, water colors, colored pencils, or glitter pens to add detail.
Caring for Your Rubber Stamps
  • Be sure to supervise young children using rubber stamps.
  • After every use, wash your rubber stamp with warm water and dishwashing soap and let air dry.
  • All of our rubber stamps are mounted on a solid wood block with a colored image on front. When not in use, you can set these stamps around your house as decoration!
