Cookie Cutter Tips and Tricks

Cookies cookies cookies! Who doesn't love cookies? They make scrumptious birthday party treats, wonderful Christmas gifts, and there is no tea party complete without them.

And cookies needn't always be round. Heck no. With a few whimsical cookie cutters, you can turn your average shortbread into Super Summer Shortbread and your so-so sugar cookies into Supercalafragalistic Sugar Surprises!

Great Gift Idea!
You will need: your favorite shortbread or sugar cookie recipe, one tin of our Mini Cookie Cutters, a set of FairyGardens' Sheer Fabric Loot Bags
  • Cook up a batch of your favorite shortbread or sugar cookies.
  • Decorate them with a simple sugar glaze.
  • Instead of wrapping them in plastic or tin foil, put them into a fabric loot bag. The bag's star accents will make a lovely impression.
Great Finger Food Idea!
Instead of serving a plain old triangular finger-sandwich platter, use the cookie cutters to create a beautiful bouquet of interesting shapes!
Gingerbread Fairy Mansions
You will need: a batch or ginger bread, a tin of FairyGardens' mini cookie cutters, egg whites, crushed hard candy

Yumm! Fairy sized doll houses you can eat! Here are some FairyGarden ginger bread tips to make your houses more exciting!

  • Roll out some uncooked ginger bread and cut it to the desired shape.
  • Instead of cutting out rectangular windows and doors, use cookie cutters to create a variety of interesting shapes.
  • Paste the cut shapes from the previous step onto unbaked walls to create interesting details. Brush both the wall and the shape with water or egg whites, press together and bake. Those fancy houses in San Francisco will look down right plain!
  • Create beautiful stained glass effects by sprinkling crushed hard candies into the window spaces of unbaked ginger bread walls. When you bake them, the candy melts, creating stunning effects.
Homemade Dough Ornaments
You will need: craft dough (recipe below), cookie cutters, acrylic paints, clear acrylic spray, ribbon, glitter, and other notions.

And you thought dough was only for eating! You can create all sorts of interesting ornaments and decorations with a simple craft dough. Get out the blender, whip up a cup of hot chocolate, and get crafty with the following recipe:

  • Mix 1 cup Water, 2 cups Non Rising Flour, and 2 cups Salt (not a dough you want to eat!)
  • Roll out the dough and cut it into delightful shapes using one of FairyGardens' Cookie Cutters
  • Bake the dough in the oven for 3 hours at 200 degrees (longer if your pieces are thicker than an average cookie)
  • Paint your cooked and cooled shapes with acrylic paints.
  • After the paint has dried, coat both sides of your marvelous creations with clear acrylic spray to seal against moisture absorption
  • Use glitter, ribbon, or any sort of spare notion to add the finishing touches!
